To embark on a journey of success, one needs the tools of preparedness, foresight and strategy. These lead to the path of growth and high quality operation. It is imperative to combine these three forces in the operations of our association in a bid to maintain the balance that is life-our core value.

Most academic organizations are constantly adapting to a changing world. The Biological Association of Nairobi University Students is no exception. As one example of this change, it is my pleasure to write to you as the BANUS chair.

BANUS is a dynamic association that is constantly evolving, innovating and identifying new ways to be of service to its members and the entire science fraternity. Currently dwelling on matters of sustainability, our members have been molded into all-rounded beings; participating in activities cutting across the biological, economic and social fields.

I look forward to working together with everyone in our association to ensure that the quality of our efforts continues to be outstanding, collegiality remains high, and that sustainability is an attainable goal for all. This will enable us to succeed in continuing to deliver the best to students partaking courses in Biological Sciences.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Biological Association of Nairobi University Students (BANUS) platform. The club based at the School of Biological Sciences, was registered in January 2000 to help promote students’ interests and understanding of biological sciences. I am pleased to note that BANUS has very active self driven members who organize annual activities aimed at furthering the knowledge of member students. This enhances students’ interaction with academic and technical staff as well as scientists from research organizations and other stakeholders including potential employers.

BANUS members also participate fully in the School of Biological Sciences activities and are always ready to give a helping hand whenever called upon. One of the notable projects where they played a key role was in the establishment of the fish ponds in the School and I would like to sincerely thank them for this effort and continued participation. The members are also continuously acquiring skills in biotechnology such as in plant tissue culture and molecular biology amongst others. It is encouraging to note that a number of BANUS members have in the recent past managed to win research grants in science on a competitive basis while still at undergraduate level and I would like to urge the current members to emulate this good example.

Lastly, I wish to appeal to all our students in the School of Biological Sciences who have not yet joined any of our clubs to consider joining BANUS as such a move will help in promoting overall academic growth and development of leadership skills and also enhance the individual student’s personality.

Regards,

Dr. Nelson Amugune
