The much anticipated match dubbed “Mashemeji derby” between 3rd year meteorology students and their Geology counter parts kicked off this afternoon at around 2pm .Much to the excitement of the fans who had come out to cheer their their respective teams.Though Meteorology fans failed to turn up to cheer their team against their Geology opponents ,who flocked the field in large numbers to boost their teams morale.Meteorology team lived up to its expectation to hold their opponents and determined to prove their might on the ground much believed to be home of geologists.
The match kicked off at around 2.30 pm with the meteorology team taking an early lead through early minute spot kick after one of them was fouled inside the box, before slipping into their comfort zone and allowing their opponents to pull one back almost immediately.The met team took command of the possession but that was not enough to keep the ever attacking geology team from scoring another superb goal to make it 2-1.As if that was not enough the geology team took advantage of a defense error and sent the ball crushing into the back of meteorology’s net making it 3-1 minutes before half time.
Second half began in high spirits with the met team determined to pull a comeback but it wasn’t going to be easy with the geology team having an ego to protect.The game was more physical with everyone fighting to keep the ball.And not so long the met team determination was repaid with a goal bringing it to 3-2.The geology team did not relent either with numerous forward surges and dangerous strikes thanks to the met goal custodian the ball was safe in his hands .The game became slower as the final minutes approached with most players looking exhausted but that did not stop the miracle comeback from happening.Meteorology team took advantage of a counter attack and not taking chances put the ball in its rightful place,back of geology’s net.And yes it was level 3-3,what an exciting match this was.The match suddenly gained pace with each side looking for a winner and it was geology team that had a goal before it was ruled out for a foul on the keeper.The controversial goal brought the match to almost an abrupt halt with both teams seeking a favor to their side.Both teams came to a common understanding and the match progressed to a mature ending with score board reading 3-3..
That was an afternoon well spent.
